Tackling Drink Spiking: Experts propose new measures :rotating_light:

The United Kingdom is gearing up for an overhaul of its drink spiking laws, spurred by calls from experts and advocates for the establishment of a specific offense addressing this alarming act.

As reported by Sky News, the Home Office has outlined plans to amend the Criminal Justice Bill and update the Offences Against The Person Act 1861.

These changes aim to explicitly define the illegality of spiking, which involves surreptitiously introducing drugs into someone’s drink or body without their knowledge or consent.

In an effort to combat this crime, a comprehensive set of measures has been unveiled, including enhanced training for door staff and increased funding for testing kits. The Home Office emphasises that these initiatives mark a significant step toward the “modernization” of the existing law.
