Sober October: Patrick Topping announces alcohol-free daytime rave
DJ and producer Patrick Topping has announced plans for a unique, alcohol-free rave to celebrate this year’s Sober October.
The Newcastle-born artist shared the news on Instagram on September 11th, explaining that the event will take place during the day and won’t serve any alcohol.
In his post, Topping shared how performing sober since 2017 has had a positive impact on his mental and physical health. “It changed my relationship with music and partying,” he said, emphasising how sobriety improved his overall well-being.
He clarified that the event isn’t anti-alcohol, but rather an alternative option. “I’m not against alcohol at all—almost all of the other events I play at still sell it,” he said. The idea behind the rave is to create a space where people don’t feel pressured to drink but can still come together and enjoy the music.
The daytime element of the event is a key focus for Topping. He highlighted the benefits of raving with more energy and without the lingering effects of a night out. “I love the idea that people can come, have an amazing time, and not deal with hangovers or exhaustion afterwards. It’s all about creating a positive, music-focused experience.”
Topping also encouraged his followers to suggest cities where they’d like to see the rave held, with a link in his Instagram bio for those interested in attending.
This announcement aligns with a growing trend of alcohol-free club nights, such as one recently launched by Mina at Hackney Wick’s Colour Factory. As more people embrace sobriety in social settings, events like Topping’s are offering a new way to enjoy rave culture.
