Never Walk Alone / BLOND:ISH to release sustainable vinyl cut from used cooking oil

BLOND:ISH, the Canadian DJ, producer, and activist, is gearing up to release her new album, Never Walk Alone, on vinyl made from an unexpected material: recycled cooking oil. The record, set to drop on February 14, 2025, is her first full-length album to be pressed on vinyl and is crafted from 100% recycled materials.

The vinyl is produced by BioVinyl, a sustainable pressing plant that uses bio-attributed PVC made from biogenic waste like cooking oil. The process drastically reduces carbon emissions—by up to 90%—and is nearly petroleum-free, making it a groundbreaking step toward more eco-friendly music production. Despite the innovative material, the blue-tinted records maintain the same high quality as traditional vinyl in terms of sound and appearance.

“This material is 99.98% petroleum-free,” explained a press release, “and the long-term goal is to completely phase out PVC vinyl.” The release highlights BLOND:ISH’s broader commitment to sustainability and her dedication to promoting a circular economy within the music industry.

The 12-track album includes collaborations with artists like Steve Appleton, Night Tales, and Zeeba. Beyond the music itself, this project is a testament to BLOND:ISH’s ongoing mission to make the music world more eco-conscious.

BLOND:ISH has been a leader in sustainability efforts for years. In 2018, she co-founded Bye Bye Plastic, an initiative aimed at eliminating single-use plastics in the music industry. She’s worked with festivals like Glastonbury and SXM Festival to adopt greener practices and encourages artists to use Bye Bye Plastic’s Eco-Rider to reduce waste.

“Everyone has a role to play,” she told EDM.com in a 2021 interview. “Artists can adopt eco-conscious riders, managers can push their teams to go green, and fans can speak up about the litter problem at their favourite events.”

With this unique vinyl release, BLOND:ISH is taking her mission a step further, proving that sustainability and innovation can go hand in hand—both on and off the dancefloor.
